Custom Hand Forged Wrought Iron Fireplace Doors
Hand forged wrought iron fireplace doors is our specialty at Mantel Depot. Our talented artisans, most of whom have
been blacksmiths for more than 35 years, meticulously hand forge each piece with extreme care.
Hand forged means the iron was heated and shaped by hand, not machine, by hammering and/or bending.
The old tale that something must have hammer marks to prove it is actually hand forged is still true. All of our
fireplace doors seem to appear flawless, but if you look very closely, they all have hammer marks which are not
considered to be defects, but proof of being truly hand forged using time-honored blacksmithing techniques
that have been employed for hundreds of years. Although blacksmithing is thought to be a lost art by some, we
still do at Mantel Depot. We don't produce our fireplace doors - we craft them at Mantel Depot.
Inside Fitting, doors without lip/flange
Your doors can be made with lip or without lip. Door without lip is suitable for fireplace with uneven stone facade.
The door is recessed completely or partially inside your stone. You give us the dimensions of your openning, and
we will make it about 1/8" smaller (you specify).
Outside or Overlapping Fitting, doors with lip/flange
Door with lip or flange is suitable for fireplace with even stone facade like marble, granite, or bricks.
The door lip overlaps your stone about 1/2" all around, and the lip rests flush on the face of your stone thereby
creating no gaps around between your door and your stone. You give us the dimensions of your openning, and we
will make the frame (behind the lip) 1/4" smaller.

Can I Install These Doors Ourselves?
Hand forged fireplace doors, being solid iron, are very heavy. The small one weighs about 90 lbs, the medium one weighs about 105 lbs, and a large one weighs about
125 lbs. Although these doors are very heavy, the installation is easy because the doors are removable from the frame. Watch these installation videos to
